great title...poorly written! !!

I think the author got so wrapped up making sure each page rhymed that they forgot how a story should flow. The book jumps around and some things don't make sense. Why would a teacher introduce herself as Mrs. Conley, but tell the kids to call her Ms. Bonnie. I could guess that Ms Bonnie is her first name...so then you should introduce yourself as Mrs. Bonnie Conley. This is only 1 annoying example. The rhythming is good and I like the illustrations. My daughter likes the book so I will continue to read it....but don't buy it if you want your child to understand how writing flows...this would not b a good choice.

About the Author
Garry McCracken gained a PhD in solid state physics but has spent most of his working life as an experimental physicist working on various aspects of the magnetic confinement fusion program with the UK Atomic Energy Authority at Culham Laboratory. His main interest has been in the study of the plasma boundary and in the interaction between the plasma and the surrounding structures and in studying the design of fusion reactors and the radiation damage problems which may be encountered. In 1979 he spent a year at the Plasma Physics Laboratory of Princeton University, USA, where he worked on the Princeton Large Tokamak.
When the JET Joint Undertaking was set up as a European Fusion Laboratory to build the JET experiment he led a Task Agreement on the plasma boundary physics. His group built and installed major diagnostics on JET and an active experimental programme was pursued. In 1993 he went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA and worked on the C-Mod tokamak in the Plasma Fusion Center. Returning to the UK in 1996 to work again on JET, until his retirement in 1999.
He has published over 300 scientific papers including three major reviews in the general area of plasma-surface interactions. He was a regular lecturer at the Culham Plasma Physics Summer School until 1991 and has been invited to lecture at a number of other Summer school courses in Canada and Europe. During these latter lectures he began to feel that there was no adequate book to explain the subject of nuclear fusion to the staring physicist and engineer or the interested layman and set about writing the present book.

Peter Stott became interested in fusion energy whilst still an undergraduate student in 1962 and did his PhD in theoretical and experimental plasma physics working between Manchester University and the Harwell and Culham Laboratories. He joined the UK Atomic Energy Authority at Culham Laboratory in 1966 and has spent his professional career as an experimental physicist working on magnetic confinement fusion.
After several years working on lower temperature plasma experiments, he moved into tokamak research in 1970. In 1973-5 he spent 18 months at the Plasma Physics Laboratory of Princeton University, USA working on the ATC tokamak. He has pursued a wide range of interests in the tokamak field including: the first applications of neutral beam injection heating, development of the control of impurities by gettering and by divertors, plasma boundary physics, plasma confinement and plasma diagnostics.
In 1979 he joined the JET Joint Undertaking to take charge of the design and construction of the plasma diagnostics systems and from 1982 to 1999 he was Head of JET’s Experimental Division 1. From 1989 to 1999 he was coordinator for the European contribution to the design of diagnostics for the ITER project and was a member of the International Advisory Group. He left JET in 1999 to move to the Département des Recherches sur la Fusion Contrôlée, Cadarache, France.
He has published over 200 scientific papers and has edited six books on plasma diagnostics and co-authored two on fusion energy. He has a keen interest in scientific publishing: being Honorary Editor of the journal Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion from 1991 to 2000 and a member of its International Advisory Panel since 2000; a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Nuclear Fusion from 1987 to 1994; and Series Editor of the Institute of Physics Series of Books in Plasma Physics since 1995. About the Author
Dr Jeffrey K. Aronson is a consultant clinical pharmacologist and physician in the Department of Primary Health Care in the University of Oxford and a consultant physician in the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust. He has been associated with the Meyler series since 1977 and has published many research papers on adverse drug reactions. He is also the editor of Meyler's Side Effects of Drugs and the Side Effects of Drugs Annual series. He is President of the British Pharmacological Society and serves on many committees concerned with drug therapy, including the Technology Appraisal Committee of the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Joint Formulary Committees of the British National Formulary and the British National Formulary for Children.

Meyler's Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs

For several years, Aronson has edited multi-authored volumes of side effects of medications. These volumes, produced annually as the "SEDA" (Side Effects of Drugs Annuals), are the basis for this volume, which is focused on psychotropics and their side effects. Other contributing material derives from recent expositions of psychotropic medication adverse reactions. Meyler was a physician who was treated for tuberculosis at the end of World War II and who developed fever and deafness from this treatment. Meyler noted that there was no single volume that clinicians could use to determine side effects of medication, and he proceeded to publish such a book. The current text is a summary of recent findings regarding effects, side effects, and drug interactions of psychotropic medications.

Meyler's Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs is divided into 6 major sections: Antidepressants (including lithium); Neuroleptic drugs; Hypnosedatives; Drugs of Abuse; Drugs used in Alzheimer's Disease; and Psychological and Psychiatric Side Effects of Non-psychiatric Drugs. Anticonvulsant mood stabilizers are also discussed. Each section is very comprehensive regarding the clinical uses of the class of medications, the side effects to be anticipated, drug interactions, long-term effects, and effects of drug overdosage. Compounds within a class are separately noted, and medications used throughout the world are discussed. There is an excellent and useful index, and each section has an excellent and up-to-date reference list.

I looked up my favorite medications and found the descriptions quite complete. I also learned quite a bit by reading the selected chapters.

I think that Aronson has compiled a very useful and clinically important volume. The material is quite important for clinicians who use psychotropic medications, and I believe that Meyler's Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs will be a useful addition to the libraries of practicing clinicians. Although the current tendency is to find drug side effects and interactions through an internet service, this volume, in its completeness and ease of use, provides much more information than one would find on the internet.

Invaluable material; essential tool

This book gives a response to the increasing interest in side effects of psychiatric drugs. The association of some antipsychotics with different cardiovascular reactions, the withdrawal of certain antidepressants for security reasons, along with the possibility of better treatments for patients when side effects of medications used are known, have contributed to this interest.
Meyler's Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs is organized by sections: antidepressants, neuroleptic drugs, hypnosedatives, drugs of abuse, drugs used in Alzheimer's disease and psychological and psychiatric adverse effects of non-psychoactive drugs. For each section, there is overall and general information presenting the main features of the group and the different adverse reactions; then, there is information corresponding to the individual drugs with the same scheme. In this manner, the book is easy to use and information is easy to find.
The editing is fantastic and has been performed by the expertise of Jeffrey K. Aronson, editor as well of Meyler's Side Effects of Drugs, a remarkable book whose first edition was published in 1952 and remains unique in the world for his quality and the vast amount of data included. Now, Meylers's Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs, with advanced knowledge and the same quality and thoroughness, expands the scope of the preceding work to the field of psychiatry making this book more oriented to clinical practice. Thus, an invaluable material is delivered for psychiatrists and other clinicians interested in an update in this transcendental field. When compared to other traditional reference books such as PDF or BNF, Meylers's Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs provides more comprehensive, evidence-based information, and a more critical approach.
In summary, Meylers's Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs is an essential tool for those who want to keep updated and to have an in-depth knowledge of the safety problems associated with drugs used in psychiatry.

It is very good. chapter about anticonvulsivants used as a psychiatric drugs would make it better

This book is very good and useful.

The contents (of psychiatric drugs) includes antidepressants and lithium, neuroleptics, hypnosedatives and a "drug-drug interactions" for each drug.

There is not a section about anticonvulsivants used as mood stabilizing agents.
I think it could make the book better, complete

Otherwise, there is a very good section about drugs of abuse (a good surprise for me), a section about drugs used in Alzheimer desease and psychological/psychiatric adverse effects of non-psychoactive drugs.

I recommend it.

Cheaper to buy an older edition.. Here are the chapter headings of 6,7,8.

I haven't received the book yet, but saved some money by buying an earlier edition. Here's a comparison chart of the different Chapters of the last 3 Editions. You can see they essentially are the same but swapped in order in a couple places. I don't know how different the content is.

About the Author

T. R. Ragan grew up in a family of five girls in Lafayette, California. As an avid traveler, her wanderings have carried her to Ireland, the Netherlands, China, Thailand, and Nepal, where she narrowly survived being chased by a killer elephant. Before devoting herself to writing fiction, she worked as a legal secretary for a large corporation. She is the author of Dead Weight, the second Lizzy Gardner book. Also, writing under the name Theresa Ragan, she is the author of Return of the Rose, A Knight in Central Park, Taming Mad Max, Finding Kate Huntley, and Having My Baby. She and her family live in Sacramento.

CREEPY but great thriller.

New author took me by surprise with this thriller. Lizzy and her boyfriend are together for the last night before he leaves for college. She's snuck out to be with him and she has him let her off down the block from home so her dad won't find out. As a result Lizzy, is one of the teenage girls kidnapped and tortured by a serial killer but escapes after a few months. Fast forward 10 years, the serial killer returns and is out to get Lizzy - the one that got away. Lizzy`s high school boyfriend is now an FBI agent and Lizzy is practicing as a PI and an instructor teaching high school girls how to defend themselves. Lizzy has loads of mental and emotional problems and is still struggling to overcome the terror she experienced at the hands of the killer. She and Jared both have tons of guilt issues over it all.

Let me tell you the serial killer is just downright creepy. The guy's nicknamed "Spiderman" for a reason. This book labeled as a romantic suspense is heavy on the thriller/suspense and very, very light on the romance. Jared and Lizzy's story is still a good one as they try to reconnect after everything that's happened in the last 10 years. Lizzy's character develops slowly as the story moves along and there are times I wondered if she'd ever be able to move forward. The torture scenes are graphically detailed which intensifies the creep factor. The side characters are realistic and I was amazed at how Lizzy, Jared and Spiderman's family dynamics twist and turn. The story is nicely woven together for a terrific ending. The story keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat the entire time. Totally engrossing and a terrific read.

Great thriler but a strong stomach is needed

I enjoyed the book, it was well crafted and well paced. The story about Lizzy's life after being abducted moves quickly and you find yourself quickly intertwined in her life.

I read mostly mysteries but this was harder to get through because of the child sexual abuse, multiple mutilations and animal cruelty. Some of it in my opinion was to much - ever single character was emotionally scarred. As a pet lover and cat owner what happens to Lizzy's cat was too much for me.

I would read another of Ragan's book and hopefully it's not as dark.

Abducted.. 17 year old Lizzy Gardner is abducted when returning from a night out with her boyfriend of two years. Held for two months by a diabolical monster, she witnesses the torture and murder of several other girls before she makes a daring escape. 14 years later, the monster resurfaces and is determined to capture the "one who got away" and make her pay. Lizzy, who still struggles with memories, flashbacks and survivor's guilt, along with Jared, the ex-boyfriend who never stopped loving her, work together to find and stop the killer.

This story is fast paced, thrilling and full of non-stop action. I couldn't put it down. The writing is excellent and I absolutely loved the Heroine and Hero and the secondary character Haley (I really hope to see a story for Haley). If you like Lisa Gardner, Beverly Barton, Laura Lippman and the like, you will find in this author, a new favorite.

Theresa, where you been girl? I'm looking forward to reading all you have. Congratulations on your thriller debut!
