I find the book to be very helpful. I have enjoyed many new ski routes because of this book. The information is relevant, the maps are good, and the directions to the routes are easy to use. The data given for each route helps me plan what I should ski that day for the time I have and the skiing conditions. I like it that the second edition has yurts and huts. Small and easy to carry along, the book gives me lots of new places to ski. A valuable book for my Montana and skiing reference shelf.

This story has an amazing storyline that completely draws you into. You cannot help falling in love with the characters and feeling all of their emotions as if they were you. This story sucks you in and I couldn't put it down until the end. I cannot wait for the next book!

Slight Twist on the Typical Highlander Story

Mary Wine writes wonderful highlander stories. I would recommend reading "Highlander's Prize" before reading this book, but it's not entirely necessary. You'll just understand more of the supplemental plot and also have a better understanding of Norris as a warrior and political figure.
I would have enjoyed this book even if it was the cliched highlander storyline because Mary Wine does an execellent job of describing settings and creating tension between characters. Luckily, this book had a nice twist on the typical highlander storyline - in this case both Daphne and Norris have been lusted after due to their position and wealth (he stands to take over a very important clan and she is beautiful with a large dowry). Their love grows out of wanting each other for who they truly are rather than their position or what can be gained from being with the other.
There's a lot of sex in this book, but it's part of the storyline that their relationship starts with lust and then grows to love.
This isn't the greatest highlander story ever, but it's a solid addition to the genre and worth reading.

Good book, I love true crime, can't believe this man got away for so long. Very twisted.

Not Enough Detail for Me! A Good True Crime Book!

This book was a fast read partly because the author has written short chapters with specific titles. Every true crime writer is probably trying to find the next Ted Bundy. Mike is no Ted Bundy although he thinks he is smarter and more sophisticated but a student of the man's crimes. Mike is a very sick man who has done horrible acts of violence towards innocent women including his wives and other women like real estate agents. His murder count is a lot lower to our knowledge because it's possible that he killed more but won't talk about it. He's in jail for life. He did have a sick, perverse sexuality which featured unwilling participants in bondage. He murdered a couple of women and a man who ill-stricken in Greece, New York. There are pictures and some basic information about his crimes but not enough detail or thorough explanation of how he became a monster in human flesh.

Beyond the Pale

As one of the judges in Mike DeBardeleben's trials commented, DeBardeleben's crimes are "beyond the pale". So perverse and depraved were his fantasies, that using the term sadist is not an exaggeration in labeling him. What makes his crimes unusual are the counterfeiting schemes that parallel his rampage. Not only did he devise a sophisticated way of printing phony money, but he also extorted from the wealthy.

The life of DeBardeleben follows a familiar path of a rough childhood and a poor relationship with his mother. The anger toward women is mirrored in each of his five wives and in each victim on a remarkmable scattered path of crime. So base and cruel were the recordings of his crimes that hardened investigators were disturbed.

Although author Stephen Michaud's writing is rather dry at times, the errors that should have been corrected by proofreaders are unacceptable. The misplacement of punctuation marks in Chapter 10 is so bad it is comical. Yet the most interesting mistake is on page 91, the first page of the Chapter 12. "Indistinct voices filtered down from an upstairs radio as the team picked its way through DeBardeleben's dark, dusty living mom ...". It would seem as though spellcheck did not recognize "mom" should have been "room".

As other readers have noted, I found great interest in the Epilogue. In this section, we learn the fates of the children DeBardeleben left behind. It is an aspect of true crime that is rarely explored.

A Cute Short Romance

Buyers should be aware this is a short story of less than 2000 words. It's a little romantic slice-of-life which takes place at an arts/crafts fair. It's a sweet "first" meet between Holly and Dave. This story is something you can read and finish within a few minutes. Perfect for when you're stuck someplace boring!

Sweet, charming and irresistible!!

Heart-warmingly sweet, fantastically fun and vividly visual, the incredibly talented Susan Hatler takes the reader into a glimpse of a nearly thirty-year-old woman who has found her place in life - now she is just waiting to find the right man to share it with.

Though short, An Unexpected Date is a wonderful and perfect release to a stressful or crazy day. I think of it as the yummy, chocolaty, warm gooey chocolate fudge on top of a big scoop of ice cream. Kick back, relax and have a bit of fun that will guarantee you to read the last word with a huge smile upon your face that just doesn't want to go away!

The setting is Whitefish, Montana. Holly has found the perfect place to live where she is surrounded by the beauty of nature, complete with glorious mountains and bears that make their way into her yard to feast upon ripe luscious berries. She has created her own jewelry and bead business cleverly named Treasured Creations. She is nearing her thirtieth birthday and her mother keeps nagging at her to move back to the city where she can find a nice man to settle down with and have a family. Though Holly does yearn to find a life-long partner, she has no desire to move away from her little piece of heaven.

It is during the Falling Leaves Festival, where Holly has set up a table to sell her creations, that she discovers that the grandest of surprises occur when least expected.

I completely and utterly fell in love with Holly, who is sweet, intelligent, ambitious and lovely. I also found myself utterly intrigued by Dave, who is handsome, sexy, kind and smart. The story unfolds in a perfect way, Ms. Hatler's descriptions are incredibly vivid and allow the reader to be right there witnessing the unfolding of the tale. When I finished reading, I could not wipe the smile off my face and felt completely satisfied. I would also love to perhaps see the story of Holly and Dave unfold further into another story *hint *hint... lol. I definitely recommend An Unexpected Date to anyone looking for a quick pick-me-up that will brighten your day!

How do you summarize a short story?! I don't think I can. But, here is the low down:
Contemporary Romance Short Story
An Unexpected Date was my 5 minute treat today. It was like the little spoon they give you at the ice cream store to try a flavor. Well, I tried the flavor and I'm buying the 3 scoop ice cream cone. :) I love Susan's writing. If you haven't tried any of her books, you really ought to. Start out with this little treat. It made me smile. Who couldn't use a bit of that on any given day?!

Gothic Paranormal Steampunk At Its Best

I. Loved. This book.

Dark, and gritty, with a scrumptious blend of steampunk, vampires, sex, and danger, this book captured me from the very first paragraph and wouldn't let me go until I'd finished it. I actually ended up staying up all night reading it, even knowing I had to get up early the next morning, because I couldn't stand the thought of putting it down.

That doesn't happen often with me.

Blade was delicious, with his barely-leashed violence and animalistic intensity when it came to Honoria, and he easily ranks as one of my new favorite heroes in romance.

Honoria, too, was a surprisingly enjoyable character, with just enough stubbornness and pride to keep things interesting, but well balanced with quite a bit of intelligence and passion.

The gloriously dark world-building, the steampunk elements blended beautifully with the paranormal, the luscious romance and the incredible chemistry all added up to a must read for any fan of gothic romance with a steampunk twist.

on and off again

The people you see on the cover are not in the book. The woman in the book is dirt poor, exhausted, rail thin, due to starvation and has dark circles under her eyes, not to mention her very proper and modest way of dressing and behaving. He seems older and rougher. So don't judge this book by its cover. Started slow...got better...started getting dragged out a bit...sex and use of the word "abraded" over and over again...the ending. I liked the characters and I liked the story line but too much teasing and talking about not frightening the lead female character with his rough ways. She couldn't sort out her feelings for the hunk, due to her past, but once she figured things out her skirts went up and, if it was up to her, they would have stayed there. There's no sex, then there is a solid block of sex, and then there is the ending. She is tough and loyal. He is dangerous and kind. They both have trust issues...which are resolved. Her siblings are nice and interesting. His men, and those who work for him, are dedicated and willing to die for him. I liked parts of it but don't think I will be buying the sequel. I hope all of their abraded skin heals quickly.

Vampire steampunk done well, great read!

What can I say about Kiss of Steel- I loved it, it's vampire steampunk done well!

Honoria Todd is a human woman, down on her luck. She is in charge of her two younger siblings, one of which is facing the blue blood virus. She hardly has enough money to make ends meet when she is noticed by Blade, the master of the rookeries and notorious Blue Blood. Blade is drawn to Honoria and determined to make her his, but he wants her for more than blood and finds himself going out of his way to keep her safe, especially when powerful enemies want her as well.

I am a fan of the steampunk genre, but I don't get the opportunity to read it very often. So, when I had the opportunity to read and review Kiss of Steel, I was excited. Bec McMaster has created a very unique paranormal world filled with humans and thralls, Blue Bloods (infected/vampire-like humans), and the occasional vicious/rabid vampire on a rampage. It took awhile for me to understand the setting, but I really loved the set up, and the story in general.

I liked Honoria a lot, it was easy to relate to her and her situation, even in such a unique world. She was just trying to take care of her family to the best of her abilities, and she had a difficult time overcoming prejudices that had been taught to her. I really like Blade as well, he is a good man with a nasty reputation. However, he takes care of his own and he made a place and a life for himself outside of the rulers confines. Honoria and Blade develop a solid connection, and sparks fly between them. I love the romance in this book, it doesn't come easy for Honoria and Blade, but it is well-deserved.

Steampunk is a historical setting, but that doesn't mean that there is no action. There is plenty of action in this fast-paced book. The vampires and blue-bloods are deadly fighters and life in the rookeries is far from peaceful.

With excellent world-building, and intriguing setting, memorable characters, and (of course) romance, Kiss of Steel is altogether an excellent read. Readers who like paranormal books, vampires, or even steampunk, I highly recommend giving Kiss of Steel a try.

Exelente libro, recomendable para saber desde cuanto tiempo los bancos y los gobiernos echan a perder la vida de seres humanos, restringendo las libertades, areglandose entre ellos a costa de taxpayers. Si agregamos a este libro algo como "The Party System" de G.K.Chesterton y H. Bellos podemos saber que pasa en la política de cada país en el Mundo. Es un base sana que ha sido adaptada por Sowell despues.
