I did a bit of digging and found out Connie Brentford is a pro who writes books about making money online because she actually does it.

97 Real Companies That Pay You to Work in Your Pajamas is loaded with excellent, actionable information that saved me dozens of hours of research and vetting online. It provides solid advice you might not have thought of yourself. It's a great value for three bucks. (I love e-books!)

I would just ask yourself how much your time is worth and compare it to the price of this book. I received a copy of this book free of charge and after reading it I can tell you it will save you HOURS. I have to admit, I didn't know about some of the companies and opportunities described here and it has given me some new ideas. The author does include helpful hints for additional searching on your own-perfect for after you have gone through the book and found something new you want to investigate.

Another Excellent Short Story!

Continuing the streak of exemplary short stories, Beginning Again follows another thread in the interconnected lives found throughout the series. This time following Corrine Brown - Love, Accidentally's Ilsa's sister - we see a woman struggle to stay strong and continue to move forward into a new life when all she wants to do is go back to the old one.

Beginning on New Year's Eve at her sister's wedding to Griffin, Corrine cannot help but think of where she was just one year before. Then she was happy and married to her husband, Bruce. Now they are divorced, he has gone back to the first wife he never stopped loving and she has to move out of their home and into one all her own. How lonely she feels, even as she knows she has loved ones who are their to support her when she needs them. It just isn't the same, it seems, being all alone when everyone else goes home.

When searching for a new place she chances upon three young men who are looking for a female roommate. They have another woman moving in (Becca, Renee's sister, from These Girls!) and they want to find a second to keep her company. Young, disheveled and full of boundless energy, these "puppy boys" seem almost too much to handle. But won't they also serve to keep her from feeling alone?

Taking a chance and deciding to move in, Corrine soon finds a solid place from which to launch her new life. Even as she takes one step forward and two steps back, her roommates are there to support her - along with Ilsa and Griffin - to allow Corrine the space and experiences she needs to learn that she can be happy again, if she is only willing to keep moving forward into whatever life has waiting for her on the other side of loss.

There is nothing better to me than to find a great new character and to reacquaint myself again with other much loved ones. In Sarah Pekkanen's short story collection you get both! While Beginnng Again mainly follows Corrine, we get peaks into the lives of other characters from the series (such as Elise from All is Bright and Griffin and Ilsa from Love, Accidentally) as well as Becca from the full length novel These Girls. This helps to solidify questions left the last time we saw these characters as well as to see how they twist into the different lives of the various other characters.

Corrine is such an endearing character! Trying desperately to be strong and move on, it is hard to see her falter along her rocky and difficult road to accepting this new life she doesn't really want. Her roommates are delightful and I can only imagine that living with a lively and caring bunch of boys like that would lift anyone spirits! While the ending is definitely open ended and we don't necessarily see Corrine reach her "happy ever after", I have a feeling we will see more of her again. I am excited to see where this short story series goes next (please write more, Ms. Pekkanen!) and which new character thread will become the focus.

Loved it

Though the stories can all be read separately, this was the third in a sort of "series" - all of which I immensely enjoyed ("All is Bright" and "Love Accidentally" are the other two, in order). Sarah Pekkanen is a very talented writer. I really got attached to the characters in the story (especially as they'd appeared in the earlier ones), and found all of the stories very engaging. I'm looking forward to reading more of Ms. Pekkanen's work!

Pekkanen's stories are always a fun read

As much as she loves her little sister, Corrine Brown finds her wedding weekend a bit difficult. Recently separated and currently divorcing, it's hard for Corrine to believe in happily-ever-after as she watches her sister marry the man of her dreams.

Corrine knows that she can't cling to her old life and her ex-husband forever so after the wedding she begins hunting for somewhere that she can start fresh. As she searches for apartments she finds the beginning of the next chapter in her life where she least expects it.

I adore Sarah Pekkanen and I have yet to be disappointed in her writing. She writes engaging stories and I always feel the need to jump into her books and become friends with her characters! I loved the plot of Beginning Again and I truly don't have a complaint about anything except for one thing. It was too short. This one was longer than her first two, which is definitely an improvement, but I guess that I still wanted more. Canadians have to pay $1.99 instead of the $0.99 that Americans have to pay and with so many excellent self-published authors out there offering their full-length stories for that price or only a little more, I guess that I just wanted a bit more for my money. That being said I will continue to buy Sarah's short stories as soon as they come out!

Madison Johns spent most of her childhood locked inside her head. She preferred to distance herself from other children her age, and had been described as a dreamer. Even as a small child, she remembers staying awake many a night fighting dragons, whisked away to foreign lands, or meeting the man of her dreams, if only in her head. Her caring nature led her to the healthcare field where she was employed as a nursing care assistant at a nursing home, and it was there that she was inspired to write her first cozy mystery, Armed and Outrageous.

I gave up one-third of the way through. I enjoyed some of the humor in the first chapter, but the repetitive beat of bodily function and sex drivel from the geriatric duo of Agnes and Eleanor became boring. It was like reading a joke book in one sitting. The first ones are good, but by the tenth page, the humor seems tired. My greatest gripe, however, is with the poor proof reading. I believe there's nothing wrong or bad about not being a perfect speller or have great command of grammar, but I become totally upset when authors won't seek the help of someone who is proficient in these areas to proof the work. There are plenty of English teachers who would be happy to do the work for a reasonable price, or perhaps for a note of appreciation in the book itself.

Total Disappointment

I was hooked when I read the comparison of this book to Miss Marple. No way! The plot is ridiculous, the characters are totally unrealistic, and I hated the gratuitous insertion of sex, sex toys, sexy lingerie, physical violence between senior women ( really?), and poor story telling. For example, the main character is shot at several times and her house is destroyed by a fire bomb and she finally (finally!) decides someone is trying to kill her, but she worries about the mice in the house dying in the fire. She goes to a sex store and buys a vibrator that she proceeds to keep in her purse and drop in front of everyone time and time again. She gets drunk and wakes up the next morning with a man. There is a disgusting oral sex scene. The illegal drug use in the book was also totally obnoxious. The seniors sell hash laced brownies as a fund raiser and everyone in town knows about it and partakes. No. This book could have been enjoyable but it was not. It was offensive.

The premise was interesting; a littl' ol' lady solving mysteries--like a modern Miss Marple, perhaps? As a littl' ol' lady myself, I thought, "this could be fun!" However...it wasn't. The author was so obsessed with adding sex to her story, at least in the almost constant comments that the characters made to each other, that the plot took second place. I couldn't even make it half way thru the book. I am sorry I wasted my money on this one.

Preferred Mosby to Bates

Update: I have warmed up to Bates as the semester has gone on; in several sections ("derm" for instance) it has a better selection and discussion of abnormal illustrations and photos than Mosby. Plus, it is usually more succinct but still gives the meat of what you need to know. Finally, it sometimes organizes assessment advice and abnormal assessments better than Mosby. At this point I would give both books 5 stars-- get the book your course requires. If you are particularly interested in assessment, then get DeGowan as well, or get all three.

Original review: I bought Bates' Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking and borrowed Mosby's guide, and I have to say that Mosby's Guide to Physical Examination is more detailed (it's also cheaper). For example, it separates the description of what you see in the nasal mucosa and nasal turbinates, giving expected vs. abnormal findings in both, whereas Bate's lumps both together as nasal mucosa. Another difference is that Mosby's groups infant, child, pregnant woman, and older adult assessments close the the adult assessment area, and Bate's has chapters in the back of the book for those assessments. Therefore, continuing the nasal assessment, to fully determine what a pale boggy turbinate might mean in a child, when using Bates one should look in at least two chapters separated by hundreds of pages. On the other hand, if you are doing a systemic pediatric assignment for school, it is somewhat nice to have one chapter in Bates to look through-- in Mosby's one has to look through each system's (cardiac, respiratory, neurologic) chapter at the "children" sections.
The increased detail in Mosby also comes at the expense of a smaller typeface (they both have about the same number of pages and the same margin area for notes).
I am definitely keeping the Bate's, but I'm going to buy a used Mosby to supplement it. Hope this review helps some NP or MD student!

Too much and too little information

This book has several chapters that are useful overviews of systems & abnormalities but there are numerous gaping holes in information, which is quite frustrating, and tends to be laking universal organization (bad editors?). Bates is WAY better.

This is a good deal but be aware that this is not the 3-pack book...it is only the physical exam book.
