David Hume (1711-1776) is regarded as one of the most significant literary figures in the history of the Scottish Enlightenment and Western philosophy. A Scottish born historian, philosopher, economist, and essayist, Hume is especially known for his concentration in philosophical empiricism and skepticism. He is chiefly known today for his work, "Treatise of Human Nature" (1739), a treatment on human cognition that includes important statements of his skepticism and experimental method. More than just essays

This e-edition derives from the late 19th Century edition of T H Green and T H Grose, which is ultimately based on Hume's own four-volume edition. It contains much more than the short essays (which are mostly in volume one). It also contains The Enquiry concerning Human Understanding, the Enquiry concerning the Principles of Human Morals, A Dissertation on the Passions, and The Natural History of Religion plus a section of "withdrawn" essays which Hume decided should only appear posthumously (his literary executor was Adam Smith).
There is a free e-book of Essays, which is really only a selection; but by all means try the sample. The Digireads editor has added real value to a public domain text.
